Pirate Captain's Outfit




Captain Kidd - This outfit was commissioned for the Discovery Channel's production of "The Trial and Hanging of Captain Kidd", which aired in June of 2001. Outfit includes fur felt hat trimmed with silver metallic lace and white ostrich plumes, black velvet waistcoat, linen shirt trimmed with lace, lace cravat, black velvet breeches and burgundy velvet frock coat. All velvet garments fully lined.


Garment most graciously modeled by Robert LeemBruggen, the actor who played the part of Captain Kidd.

Screen credits were given for this commission.
- Pictured here is a closeup of the cuff and pocket treatment of the burgundy velvet frock coat. Over 30 hours were devoted solely to the manufacture of the coat. Coat features pleats at the side of coat skirting and a vent in the skirting of the center back. Coat trimmed with silver metallic ribbon and over five dozen silver buttons. Sleeve and pocket closeup
Howard Pyle's Captain Kidd - This picture by Howard Pyle, the classic illustrator who is reknowned for his pirate renditions, inspired the creation of the garments pictured above.
